Anne Godfrey
Chief executive officer

Anne was appointed chief executive of GS1 UK in January 2021. GS1 has 118 Member Organisations, throughout the world, keeping consumers informed and protected through the power of standards.
Specialising in change management within the not-for-profit space, she has a proven track record of delivering challenging targets while harnessing the skills, knowledge and passion of members, staff and external stakeholders.
Previously, Anne held leadership roles across a diverse range of membership organisations, including time as CEO at both the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Anne was director of commercial and membership services at the Law Society, and commercial and marketing director at the Confederation of British Industry.
Anne’s earlier career in academic and professional publishing included senior sales, marketing and product development roles for publishers such as Prentice Hall and Thomson Reuters. She has a first-class honours degree from Glasgow University and a postgraduate diploma in law from Nottingham Law School.

Dr Nnenna Osuji
Chief executive officer

With more than 20 years’ experience within the NHS, Dr Nnenna Osuji joined North Middlesex University Hospital Trust as chief executive in 2021. She had previously worked as deputy chief executive and medical director at Croydon Health Services Trust. While at Croydon she was also joint clinical lead for the South West London sustainability and transformation partnership and a member of key groups including the London Clinical Advisory Group and the London Clinical Senate. An experienced haematology consultant, Nnenna has a pedigree in academia and teaching and continues to practise.
Ed James
Director of Procurement

Ed James has worked in public sector procurement since 2006. He started his career working in an NHS trust before moving into working at a regional NHS organisation. In 2018 Ed joined the Department of Health and Social Care as Deputy Director/ Head of Procurement.
During his career Ed has maintained his professional development completing a Master’s in Business Strategy and Procurement Management, as well as a Master’s in Public Procurement Law & Policy, and was awarded FCIPS and an MBE for services to healthcare.
Ed is now the Director of Procurement for the Humber & North Yorkshire Procurement Collaborative a new organisation who are transforming the way procurement and supply chain services are provided across the ICS.

Glen Hodgson
Head of healthcare

Glen Hodgson is head of healthcare at GS1 UK. Within this role he is charged with helping healthcare providers and their suppliers increase patient safety whilst reducing costs.
With more than 25 years of national and international experience, Glen has served at board level in a variety of operational and commercial roles within complex organisational structures inside both the pharmaceutical and medical devices industry.

Iain Walker
Industry engagement director

Iain Walker was appointed as a director of GS1 UK in 2022, joining from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. As former UK High Commissioner to Ghana and, before that, finance director and Foreign Office board member, Iain has worked across UK government and within the private sector.
Initially qualifying as a lawyer and then chartered accountant with EY, Iain most recently was a director in the Supply Chains Unit of the Cabinet Office enabling HM Government’s response, supporting the PM’s supply chain advisor Sir Dave Lewis.
At GS1 UK, Iain leads on industry engagement with a particular focus on retail, healthcare, construction and eCommerce.

Lindsay Robertson
Implementation manager

Lindsay Robertson is currently the NHS Scotland Scan for Safety Programme Implementation Manager and has recently led the national implementation team to successfully roll out a national Inventory Management System across all NHS Scotland Health Boards. Lindsay is now leading the national implementation of Point of Care scanning for the national Scan for Safety Programme. Via Point of Care scanning and the adoption of global standards, the programme aims to increase traceability and recall ability for medical devices used in acute care. Previously Lindsay was the Technology Services Manager for NHS National Services Scotland National Procurement – the Centre of Expertise for NHS Scotland procurement. It was here that she was responsible for strategic leadership of digital procurement solutions, delivering national programmes of work that embrace new technologies and digital solutions to transform services.

Matt Burley
Head of inventory management

Matt Burley has worked at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) for 16 years, working his way up from logistics supervisor to his current role, building an impressive portfolio of project delivery along the way. Previously he spent 10 years in wholesale retail, after going straight into full time employment after leaving school. He is currently the Head of Inventory Management at STH and was responsible for successfully implementing the trust-wide inventory management solution alongside an active role on the trust’s Scan4Safety board. Matt has a deep passion for the NHS and sees the promotion and adoption of inventory management and GS1 principles as key opportunities to the NHS.

Nata Zaman
Equipping adviser – NHP Transformation Directorate, New Hospital Programme

Nata Zaman is a highly experienced healthcare leader, specialising in equipping strategies, hospital design, and clinical engineering. As Deputy Director of Equipping for the New Hospital Programme (NHP) in the UK, Nata is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic, programmatic approach on Fixtures, Fittings and Equipment. Her work ensures that healthcare infrastructure aligns with clinical needs, maximises economies of scale, and supports long-term operational efficiency.
In addition to her role at NHP, Nata serves as the Secretary General of the Global Clinical Engineering Alliance (GCEA), advocating for international collaboration in clinical engineering and technology management. She plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and best practices to enhance patient safety, healthcare innovation, and sustainability.
In her talk Nata will be sharing insights on how standardisation, digital integration, and strategic procurement can drive efficiencies and improve patient care in healthcare settings.

Stefanos Christoforidis has over 10 year of experience in inventory management and supply chain in five different NHS trusts. His focus centres on strategic developments with strong project management skills and the ability to setup long term vision. He is a specialist in Scan4Safety, leading inventory teams in multi-dimensional environments. Stefanos has also received nominations of rising star of the year in 2019 and multiple awards for best NHS project at the Supply Chain Excellence, HFMA and Public Finance awards.
Stephen Bush
Medical director – operations

Mr Stephen Bush is Medical Director for Operations at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT), one of the largest acute NHS trusts in the UK. LTHT is the regional Major Trauma Centre and the regional hub for a number of services including cardiac intervention, vascular surgery and stroke management.
Steve works clinically as a consultant in emergency medicine and, prior to the Medical Director post, was Clinical Director for Emergency and Specialty Medicine for 10 years. He chairs the LTHT Scan4Safety Board, the Leeds Same Day Response Care Delivery Board and the Leeds Clinical and Professional Forum. Steve was the chair of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Programme in the UK and is currently the chair of ATLS Europe.
Steve is responsible for the Unplanned Care Programme at LTHT. This comprehensive programme comprises workstreams that offer innovative alternatives to attendances such as the Primary Care Access Line and alternatives to admission for non-elective patients such as the Same Day Emergency Care Units. Other workstreams deliver improvements in inpatient placement including the Live Bed State, improve care delivery for those patients who do need admission and enhance the timeliness of discharge.
Professor Ted Baker
Chair

Professor Ted Baker comes to the Health Services Safety Investigations Body having most recently been Chief Inspector of Hospitals at the Care Quality Commission for five years.
He has had a long clinical and academic career that began when he joined the NHS as a teenager working as a laboratory technician. He went on to qualify as a doctor specialising in paediatric cardiology, pioneering the magnetic resonance imaging of the heart in children with complex heart disease and leading a project to build the first new children’s hospital in London in over a century. He has held a number of senior clinical leadership and academic posts.
Throughout his career he has recognised the need to improve the safety of healthcare and has brought that determination to his role chairing the new body.
Ted is the first Chair of the Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB). He's held the position since October 2023.
